Bluefield Edges Past Golden Tigers 64-53
Bluefield, Virginia- The Brenau basketball team came up short against Bluefield (Va.) University in a 64-53 loss in Appalachian Athletic Conference competition on Saturday.
After Bluefield jumped out to an early 13-9 first quarter lead, the Rams started the second quarter on a 10-0 run to increase the lead to 23-9. Brenau freshman Taylor Williams started the comeback with five consecutive points to cut the deficit to 23-14. The Golden Tigers continued to chip away as junior Jasmin Jackson scored on a layup and then fellow junior Michalea Cope added another score to cut the lead to 30-22. Just before the half, junior Katherine Fourie hit a long three pointer and Williams added another score to make the score 30-27.
In the second half, the Rams held off the Golden Tigers, who struggled to find consistent offense in the loss.
Williams scored a career-high 15 points to lead all scorers, while Cope and Fourie added 10 points each.
Kylie Meadows led Bluefield with 14 points.
Brenau shot 35% from the floor (19-54), but struggled from three point range by shooting only 21% (4-19) from behind the arc.
Brenau (3-6 overall, 2-5 AAC) takes a break for the holidays and will return to action against Tennessee Wesleyan University (8-2 overall, 7-2 AAC) in an AAC matchup on Tuesday January 4th at 5:30 pm.
