Golden Tigers Struggle in 79-58 loss to Point
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau basketball team struggled offensively in a 79-58 loss to Point (Ga.) University in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Tuesday.
After a solid first quarter of play for both teams, the Golden Tigers didn't score for the first three minutes of the second quarter until sophomore Hanna Cannon hit a three pointer to stop the drought. However, the visiting Skyhawks answered with a 6-0 run to increase the lead to 28-19.
Brenau responded with back-to-back baskets as freshman Taylor Williams scored on a driving layup and junior Katherine Fourie hit a deep three pointer to make the score 29-24. Point answered the Golden Tigers' run with a seven point swing to increase the lead to 36-28 and then closed the quarter on a five to two run to take a 41-30 lead into intermission.
After halftime, Point continued to add runs by outsourcing the Golden Tigers 17-4 over the first five minutes of the period to run away with the victory.
The Golden Tigers shot a solid 43% from the floor, but only 28% from three point range and a paltry 56% from the free throw line. Point made 46 percent of its shots from the field, including 41% from beyond the arc and 84% from the charity stripe.
Fourie and freshman Jill Pittman led Brenau with nine points each, while Cannon added eight points. Sophomore Kait McCarter chipped in seven points.
Point's Hannah Williams posted a game-high 19 points.
Brenau (2-1 overall, 1-1 AAC) next travels to Milligan (Tenn.) University (2-3 overall, 2-0 AAC) in an AAC matchup on Saturday at 2 pm.
