Montreat Slips Past Golden Tigers 75-61
Montreat, North Carolina- A cold shooting fourth quarter allowed Montreat College to slip past the Brenau Golden Tigers 75-61 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday.
The Golden Tigers shot 18% in the fourth quarter to allow the host Cavaliers to escape with the win.
With Montreat leading 39-32 at halftime, the Golden Tigers went on an 18-8 run in third quarter to take a two point lead going into the fourth quarter. In the final period, the offense went cold and allowed Montreat to pull away in the final two minutes of play.
"We started the game with cold shooting and ended the game the same way," said head coach Kris Stewart. "In the third quarter we played well and had opportunities to pull away. We actually ran good offense in the fourth quarter, but the shots didn't fall".
"We did some really good things in this game, but unfortunately we didn't get the end result that we wanted. I am pleased with our ball movement and I know the shots will fall in the future."
Junior Hanna Grogan led Brenau with 13 points, while fellow junior Tatyiana McClendon added 13 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore Tamia Francis posted 7 points and 7 rebounds and junior Ashanti Brown chipped in 7 points and 5 rebounds.
Montreat (6-5 overall, 5-4 AAC) was led by Jessyka Leak's 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Brenau (6-6 overall, 3-5 AAC) takes a break for the holidays and will return to the hardwood on January 4th when the team takes on Tennessee Wesleyan (5-6 overall, 5-4 AAC) at 2 pm in Gainesville.
