Brenau Rolls Past Montreat 78-62
The Brenau basketball team closed out the first part of the season with a 78-62 win over Montreat (NC) College in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Montreat.
The Golden Tigers forced 30 turnovers and had four players post double-figures to easily roll past the host Cavaliers.
After leading 22-21 at the end of the first quarter, the Golden Tigers' defense locked down to hold Montreat to only five points in the second period to make the score 32-26 at intermission.
At the start of the third quarter, Brenau went on a 16-6 run to pull away with their seventh victory of the season.
"We did a solid job defensively tonight," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We also had excellent production from our posts and our bench, but we need to start finishing fast break opportunities and making open jumpers."
"I am very pleased with our entire squad through the first part of the season and I look forward to watching them continue to mature together after the break."
Kaylyn Brooks led all scorers with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Autumn Dodson added 14 points. Jasmine Knight had another stellar all-around performance with 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals and Cameron Mims posted a season-high 10 points.
Sierra Brown led Montreat (3-8 overall, 2-6 AAC) with 14 points.
Brenau (7-3 overall, 5-3 AAC) takes a break the returns after the holiday with a non-conference matchup against LaGrange College at 2pm eastern in LaGrange.
