Basketball Picked Seventh in SSAC Preseason Poll
The Brenau Golden Tigers were picked seventh in the 2016-17 Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Coaches Poll, released by the conference office on Tuesday.
The Golden Tigers, who return 11 letter winners from last year's 16-14 squad, topped off a solid 2015-16 season highlighted by the program's first SSAC tournament victory- a 65-49 win over Coastal Georgia.
Seniors Maegan Kenimer, Dominique Patrick, Quinnesha Turner and Briah Woods are expected to provide veteran leadership and experience to the team, while juniors Autumn Dodson and Sydney Haas look to build off of their strong sophomore campaigns.
Transfers Jasmine Knight and Shymane Callahan and freshman Maddy Zaferatos hope to offset the departure of four seniors, including two-time SSAC All-Conference selection and 1,000 point scorer, Kalin Williams.
Bethel (Tenn.) University, the 2015-16 SSAC regular season champions, topped the preseason poll with 118 votes, while SSAC Conference Tournament champions, Loyola (La.) University placed second with 113 votes. Martin Methodist (Tenn.) (99 votes), Mobile (Ala.) (81), Faulkner (Ala.) (72) and Blue Mountain (69) rounded out the top six.
Brenau opens the regular season at Life (Ga.) University on November 1st at 7 pm.
