Defense Leads Golden Tigers Basketball Past Yellow Jackets
In a weeknight non-conference contest, the Brenau basketball team used stifling defense to run past Allen (S.C.) University 60-29 on Tuesday.
The Golden Tigers jumped out to an early 20-7 lead as freshman Autumn Dodson (FR/Jefferson City, Tenn.) knocked down three three-point shots in the early going. Claire Zimmerman (JR/Woodstock, Ga.) added a three pointer to the quick start as Brenau took a 30-17 lead into the intermission.
In the second half, the Golden Tigers hit the boards as junior Jasmine Williams (JR/Palmetto, Ga.) pulled down an offensive rebound off a miss and finished to increase the lead to 20 points. Carly Kluttz (SO/Gastonia, NC) added an offensive put back of her own to increase the lead, while Jasmine Davis (SO/Thomaston, Ga.) grabbed her own miss and finished to give Brenau a 30 point lead.
The Golden Tigers held the Yellow Jackets to 10-56 shooting (18%), including 0-15 from behind the arc.
"I was very pleased with our defense and rebounding tonight, particularly in the second half," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We got sloppy on offense at times, but overall, I thought we played well as a team.
Brenau was led by Dodson's 20 points on 7-9 shooting. Williams added eight points and nine rebounds.
Kamya Thomas led Allen with 13 points.
The Golden Tigers (8-7 overall, 3-4 SSAC) next travel to #23 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) University on Thursday for a 5:30 pm central start.
