Basketball Drops Conference Opener
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Brenau basketball team fell 65-52 to Faulkner (Ala.) University in an early-season SSAC matchup on Friday.
The Golden Tigers led most of the first half as freshman Autumn Dodson scored 13 first half points on 4-7 shooting from the arc. However both teams struggled to find the mark, but Brenau finished the half with a 26-23 lead.
In the second half, neither team could seize control as both the Golden Tigers and Eagles stayed within five points. Junior Anikee Combee scored a career-high 11 points, all in the second half, while Briah Woods also added 11 second half points as Brenau and Faulkner battled thoughout the period.
In the final 2:30 seconds, Brenau went cold from the floor, missing their last six shots to let the game slip away.
"We played really hard and as a team, but we just couldn't find our offensive rhythm," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Our defensive effort was really strong and we held a very good offensive team in check for 36 minutes, but we missed so many easy shots. It was a good learning experience for our young team and I have no doubt that we are improving each game."
Woods led all scorers and rebounders with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Combee added 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Kalin Williams chipped in with six points and 12 rebounds.
Olivia Adamson led the Eagles with 15 points.
Brenau (2-3, 0-1 SSAC) next travels to William Carey (Miss.) College on Friday for a 5:30 central tip off.
