Basketball Loses Late to Young Harris
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.-The Brenau basketball team took NCAA Division II Young Harris (Ga.) College down to the wire in a close 67-64 loss on Saturday.
After opening the game with a 10-0 lead behind five early points from Kalin Williams, the Golden Tigers led much of the first half. However, the Mountain Lions hit a buzzer beating three-pointer to take a 33-32 lead into the intermission.
After the half, Young Harris stretched the lead to 60-48 with 7:50 remaining in the half, but a 14-2 run by the Golden Tigers tied the game up at 62-62 at the 2:27 mark.
Young Harris took a three point lead with just over a minute left, but the Golden Tigers missed an open three-point opportunity to tie the game.
Williams led all scorers with season high 22 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Autumn Dodson added 14 points and four assists, while Nekeia Brown added seven points and seven rebounds.
Shereese Williams led Young Harris with 16 points.
Brenau shot 36% for the game and 48% in the second half. The Golden Tigers were also 29-38 (76%) from the foul line.
"I am very proud of how hard the team competed," said head coach Kris Stewart. "We have so many injuries, but our other players stepped up and played very well against a good Young Harris team. Every game is a learning experience for our young team and we are improving every time we step on the floor".
Brenau (2-2) next travels to Montgomery, Alabama on Friday for a conference matchup with Faulkner University.
