Golden Tigers Basketball Falls To Hornets
After leading at the half, the Brenau Golden Tigers basketball team let the lead slip as the Southern Poly Hornets closed out the game 74-57 on Saturday.
In the first half, both teams battled as neither team could seize an advantage. Late in the first half, Claire Zimmerman (Woodstock, Ga.) knocked down two three pointers, and Jasmine Williams (Palmetto, Ga.) finished a post move to give the Golden Tigers 29-25 halftime lead.
In the second half, both teams traded baskets early to keep the score close. Jasmine Butler (Gainesville, Ga.) scored on a short jumper, but the Hornets went on a 9-0 run to stretch the lead to 53-43. Nekeia Brown (Danielsville, Ga.) finished a two point basket to cut the Southern Poly to eight, but the Golden Tigers were unable to cut into the lead.
"We played really hard, but struggled finishing shots," said head coach Kris Stewart. "Against a good defensive team like Southern Poly, you have to knock down shots. We had several layups and three pointers go in and out, which is unfortunate. We still have a lot to play for, and I think we will rebound from this loss".
Butler led Brenau with 18 points and seven rebounds. Brittney Wiley (Royston, Ga.) added 10 points, while Zimmerman added nine.
Arnissa Galloway led the Hornets with 18 points.
Brenau (11-12. 6-9 SSAC) next travels on Thursday to Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) University for a 5:30 central tipoff.
