Brenau Basketball Loses Close Game Against Bethel

The Brenau University Golden Tigers squared off against the No.22 ranked Bethel University Wildcats in a non-conference game on Friday.
In the first half, the game was a back and forth contest, with both teams playing well. The Golden Tigers took a five point lead at the ten minute mark on a Gabby Harvey (Lilburn, Ga.) put back, and finished the half with a five point lead.
In the second half, both offenses got into rhythm. The Bethel Wildcats took a late lead with about five minutes remanding on 7-9 shooting from three-point range. The Golden Tigers kept it close, but cold three point shooting (2-9) and three consecutive turnovers allowed Bethel to escape with the win 79-71.
Coach Stewart comments "We played very hard. We shot 55% in the second half and out-rebounded a larger team by 25 rebounds. However, Bethel shot the three really well in the second half and we failed to capitalize on some open looks. I am very proud of how hard we played, but we just need to close out these games. Bethel is a quality, nationally ranked team and I thought we were right there with them."
Brenau was led by Harvey's game high 19 point and 19 rebounds. Senior Nikki Reed (Atlanta) tallied 13 points and 6 rebounds, but was plagued with foul trouble all night. Olivia Williams (Hiram, Ga.) also chipped in nine points and six rebounds.
Bethel's balanced attack was led by Alicia Gentry's 15 points.
