Tigers Maul Mountain Lions
The Brenau Golden Tigers came out victorious tonight against Young Harris College with a strong win right before the Christmas break. The beginning of the game showed several lead changes and tied scores, with Brenau pulling away at the 9 minute mark and never looking back. After the halftime score at 28-18, the Tigers pulled away for their biggest lead of the night at 50-27 with 9 minutes remaining, and continued their efforts to win the game with a score of 65-56.
Brenau was especially strong on the boards tonight as they out-rebounded their opponent 47-32. Excellent 3-point shooting at 47%, along with a much-improved 40% from the field kept Brenau in the lead for the majority of the game, while the Tigersheld Young Harris to just 30% from the field with a strong defensive effort led by Gabby Harvey. With all 13 players for Brenau seeing action, the Tigers also had 15 team assists along with 10 steals in a true team effort all around.
Leading all scorers tonight was Brittney Wiley, with a career-high of 28 points. Wiley went 7-16 from the field, while shooting a blistering 4-8 from the 3-point line. Nikki Reed recorded another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Gabby Harvey matched her career rebounding high with 18 boards, along with 6 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Young Harris was led by Shereese Williams with 14 points and Peyton Robertson with 13.
Brenau improves to 7-7 overall (SSAC 1-3) while Young Harris falls to 7-2 (Conf. 0-0).
The next game for the Golden Tigers will be a home matchup against Auburn University Montgomery on January 7. Game time is set for 3pm.
