Brenau Nearly Upsets #9 Lee

Gainesville, Ga- The Brenau basketball team nearly pulled the upset of the season tonight when they played their final regular season game against #9 Lee University but came up short 77-71. The win elevated Lee's record to 26-3, 14-1 and the Tigers fell to 17-13, 6-10. It was Senior Night at the Brenau gym and the seven who played their last game at home didn't disappoint. Ashley Hagans led three others in scoring with 19 points and Tasha Anderson scored a career high 10. Meg Henson chipped in 15 points to go with nine rebounds and Vicky Wilson had 11 points, four assists and five rebounds.Lee led for most of the game, but Brenau would not go away despite a 47-26 rebounding deficit and being outshot .429 to .343. The score at the half was 38-30 and the Flames pushed it to a 15 point margin before the Tigers roared back to trail 71-69 with under two minutes to play. Lee's All American Katie Nelson scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to keep her team ahead. "I thought our seniors played inspired basketball tonight and if we would have hit some shots there at the end, we had a good chance to win." said Coach Gary Bays. Brenau will open up the SSAC Conference Tournament next Thursday with a 1 pm game against either Southern Poly or Shorter.
