Brenau Comes Up Short at Shorter
February 21, 2010
Rome, Ga- The Shorter Hawks (19-8, 10-4) broke open a close game in the last eight minutes to defeat the Brenau Golden Tigers (17-11- 6-8) today in SSAC action 76-60. Freshman Nikki Reed continued to impress, leading the Tigers with 14 points and nine rebounds and Seniors Ashley Hagans and Tori Collins scored 13 and 11 points respectively. Meg Henson had a solid outing with eight points, six rebounds and five assists, but the real story was Brenau's inability to match the run of the Hawks when the score reached 58-53. From that point on, Shorter went on an 18-7 tear to close out the game. The first half was much different as the Tigers led for most of it and took a 35-34 lead into the intermission. Both teams shot around 40% in that stanza, but things were much different in the second frame as Shorter shot .609 from the field and Brenau could only hit at a .324 clip. The Tigers will close out the regular season next week by traveling to Emmanuel on Tuesday and finishing up on Senior Night against Lee Thursday.
