Tigers Prevail Over Lions

Gainesville, GA- Ashley Hagans led four players in double figures tonight as the Tigers picked up a crucial SSAC victory over Emmanuel 71-59. Brenau moves into a tie for fourth place in the conference with the Lions at 4-3 and stand at 12-5 overall. Emmanuel drops to 10-7 on the season. Hagans dropped in 21 points to go with eight rebounds and Paige Cooper went 7-10 from the field to finish with 14. Tori Collins had 13 points, hitting 3-4 threes and dished out six assists and Meg Henson also hit 3 threes to go with six rebounds and six assists.Emmanuel was led by Ashley Jackson and Tenae Mann with 13 apiece. The first half was a defensive struggle thoughout and both teams shot poorly from the field with BU converting on 10-33 shots and EC making only 9-37 as the Tigers slowly built a 25-18 halftime advantage. The second half was a different story with Brenau hitting 17-31 shots for a .548 percentage and Emmanuel going 16-34 (.471). The big difference in the game was a 10-21 effort from the three point line for the Tigers, while Emmanuel could only manage 4-23 from beyond the stripe. "When we get that kind of balance offensively and shut teams down with our defense, we are a very good team," said Coach Gary Bays. "We needed this win to keep us within striking distance of the leaders in the conference." Brenau will travel to Cleveland, TN on Thursday to take on SSAC leader and #7 ranked Lee.
