Brenau Prevails Over Berry

Gainesville, GA- The Brenau basketball team picked up its fourth straight win tonight with a hard-fought victory over Berry, 73-66. The Tigers are now 11-4 on the season and Berry drops to 5-6. Senior guard Ashley Hagans again led the way with 27 points and six steals, but she got some help from Senior Sarah Ledford, who had her best outing of the season with 13 points and seven rebounds and Senior Meg Henson with seven points and six assists. Berry was paced by Kate Ross who tossed in 20 points and snagged seven rebounds.Brenau opened with a 10-2 run, but Berry got right back in the game with a run of their own to close the gap to 13-10. It stayed close throughout the first half with the Tigers opening up a 43-34 halftime advantage. The Vikings opened the second half with a run of their own, taking their only lead of the game at 51-50. Brenau quickly regained the lead shortly thereafter, but the game stayed close to the end. A strong effort from the free throw line proved to be the difference as the Tigers hit 22-28 (.786). "That was a quality win against a very good team," said Coach Gary Bays. "I was really impressed with their intensity and our players ability to match them." Brenau will return to conference play on Saturday with a 2 pm tipoff against rival Shorter at the Tigers gym.
