Tigers Roar Back to Defeat Southern Wesleyan

Gainesville, GA- The Brenau Golden Tigers spotted Southern Wesleyan a 13-0 lead to start the game before coming back to win a key SSAC contest tonight 84-71. With the victory the Tigers move to 9-4 and 2-2 in conference play. SWU drops to 7-3, 1-3. Senior sharpshooter Ashley Hagans led the scoring parade with a season high 26, 16 of which came in the second half. Paige Cooper added 15 points and six rebounds and Sarah Ledford came off the bench to hit 3 big three pointers and finish with 11 points.After spotting the Warriors the opening lead, Brenau settled down and took the lead for good at 18-17. The score at the half was 38-34 as both teams traded baskets, most of which were in transition. The lead grew to as many as 19 in the second half as Tori Collins and Nikki Reed, who finished with nine apiece, joined the scoring parade for the Tigers. "I thought we showed what we are capable of at times tonight against a very good team and if we can sustain that kind of play, we can be a contender in the conference," said Coach Gary Bays. Brenau will return to conference play on Saturday with another home game against Columbia, SC with a 2 pm tipoff.
