December 12, 2009
Gainesville, GA- The Brenau basketball team ran their season record to 6-2 with an 84-75 win over Milligan, TN at Johnson High School. Milligan, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Division II Top 25 poll, drops to 10-4 with the loss. Balanced scoring and outstanding shooting was the key for the Tigers as five players finished in double figures for the contest. Senior All American Ashley Hagans led the way with 24 points, nine rebounds and six steals, including 4 of 8 from behind the arc.She got plenty of help as Senior Paige Cooper finished with 16 points and five rebounds and Vicky Wilson hit 7-8 free throws to score 13 points and she led the team with seven assists. Sophomore Brittney Crews came off the bench to hit 10 points as she hit 3-3 from three point land and Freshman Nikki Reed had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. It took all that to offset the performance of All American Heather Mandela from Milligan, who scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Brenau shot a sizzling .492 from the field and hit 10-20 three point shots and were even with the Buffs on the boards with 33 apiece. "This was a very good win for us against a quality opponent and I am particularly pleased with our team defense and rebounding," said Coach Gary Bays. Brenau will travel to Americus next Tuesday for a rematch against Georgia Southwestern before taking a 10 day break for Christmas.
