Poor Shooting Dooms Tigers at Southern Poly
December 4, 2009
Marietta, GA- The Southern Poly Hornets ran their season record to 9-0 and took over the conference lead at 3-0 with a 65-52 defeat of the Brenau Golden Tigers tonight. Brenau drops to 4-2, 0-2 on a night when they shot poorly from the field and turned the ball over 26 times. Senior Paige Cooper came up with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Ashley Hagans had 13 points and five steals, but the Tigers shot .340 from the field and .250 from the 3 point line.SPSU used a half court trapping defense to rattle the visitors and Brenau never really got into a good offensive flow and ended up forcing shots to try and get back in the game. Poly led from start to finish and opened up a 32-21 halftime advantage. The Tigers tried to get back in the game and used their full court press effectively in the second half to close the gap to 52-44, but Poly made all the right plays down the stretch to seal the win. Brenau will make the long trip to Brewton Parker on Saturday to try and get back on track in the SSAC.
