Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team continued to slug its way through the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a clean sweep of Kentucky Christian on Wednesday.
In the opening game, sophomores Ava Moon and Dayton Power combined for 5 hits and 7 RBIs to help the home team defeat the visiting Knights 15-7.
After Kentucky Christian (5-7 overall, 2-4 AAC) opened the game with an early 5-3 lead, the Golden Tigers exploded for a nine-run third inning to pull away with the win.
Moon continued her stellar play with a 2-3 afternoon with 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases, while Power went 3-4 with 4 RBIs. Riley Smith also added 2 RBIs in the victory.
In the second game, Brenau starting pitcher Malorie Watson threw a complete game and allowed no earned runs as the Golden Tigers won 10-2 in six innings.
Power continued her strong afternoon of play with two RBIs, while junior Whitney Hulsey went 3-4 with 3 RBIs. Freshman Elizabeth Bowen added 2 RBIs and sophomore Breanne Brookshire added an RBI.
Moon swiped another bag- her third of the afternoon- to add to her AAC-best 19 steals, while Hulsey's strong day kept her in the conference lead in both batting average (.537) and RBIs (35)
Brenau 14-4 overall overall, 4-0 AAC) next hits the road to take on Columbia (SC) College (11-11 overall, 6-4 AAC) on Friday and Columbia (SC) International University (10-10 overall, 4-2 AAC) on Saturday for AAC doubleheaders.
