Softball Sweeps Columbia; Awaits Postseason Seeding
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball swept Columbia (SC) College 10-1 (five innings) and 7-0 in a critical Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) doubleheader on Thursday.
The Golden Tigers currently sit in fifth place in the AAC standings after wrapping up the regular season slate.
In the first game, the Brenau offense overwhelmed the visiting Koalas by pounding out 14 hits off of three different pitchers en route to a 10-1 win.
Senior Hannah Patridge continued her stellar senior campaign by going 3-3 with 2 RBIs. Fellow Senior Carley Cox also went 2-2 with an RBI. Freshmen Peyton Hawkins and Dayton Power each added 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Brenau also wreaked havoc on the bases as Ava Moon, Tivona Myles, Riley Smith and Charlotte Smith each stole a base.
Starting pitcher Sarah Shaw pitched all five innings and allowed one run to secure her 14th win of the season. The Buford, Ga. senior finishes the regular season with a 14-7 record and 15 complete games.
In the second game of the day, Brenau starter Maliah Lee threw a complete game, three-hitter to blank the Koalas 7-0.
Patridge went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Charlotte Smith and Riley Smith also each added two hits and an RBI to the win.
Brenau (26-16 overall, 17-11 AAC) now awaits seeding for the 2024 AAC Softball Championships hosted at the Brickyard Ball Fields in Kingsport, Tennessee from April 30-May 4.
