Softball Slugs Way Past Midway to Take Doubleheader

Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball swept Midway (Ky.) University 8-6 and 8-7 in a non-conference slugfest at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Field on Saturday.

In the opening game of the afternoon, Brenau opened the scoring in the top of the third inning as Riley Smith singled home Dayton Power for an early 1-0 lead. After Midway posted two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead, the Golden Tigers exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-2 lead. 

The visiting Eagles chipped away at the deficit over the final three innings, but the Golden Tigers held off the comeback for an 8-6 win.

Riley Smtih went 3-4 with 4 RBIs, while Whitney Hulsey added two hits and an RBI. Charlotte Smith also went a perfect 2-2 with an RBI. 

In the second game of the doubleheader, the offensive show continued as Brenau outlasted Midway 8-7 to sweep both games.

Riley Smith continued her strong day with two hits and two RBIs, while Peyton Hawkins also added two hits and two RBIs. Carley Cox also went 1-3 with two RBIs.

Brenau (3-1 overall, 0-0 AAC) next hosts Point (Ga.) University (2-6 overall) on Tuesday at 3 pm and 5 pm Eastern time.
