Softball Earns Split Versus Faulkner University
Gainesville, Georgia- The Brenau softball team used a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to split a pair of non-conference matches against Faulkner (Ala.) University on Senior Day on Wednesday.
In the opening game, the visiting Eagles jumped out to a commanding 5-0 lead until the Golden Tigers rallied for two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to cut the deficit to 5-4. Brenau had chances to win in the bottom of the inning, however, the rally was cut short as Faulkner held on to the win.
In the second game of the afternoon, Brenau jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as sophomore Carley Cox doubled to left center to drive in three runs and then senior Alyssa Maisonet scored on a throwing error.
Faulkner scored five unanswered runs over the next five innings to take a 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh until Brenau junior Hannah Patridge blasted a solo shot to right center field to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
With the international tie breaker runner on second, sophomore Haley Horne laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to third, then senior Kasey Blair hit a sacrifice fly to earn the walk off 6-5 win.
Brenau (27-14 overall, 19-9 AAC) wraps up the regular season with the split and now awaits its matchup for the 2022 Appalachian Athletic Conference Softball Championships to be held on April 25-29 in Kingsport, Tenn.
