Softball Edges Past Johnson in AAC Doubleheader
Knoxville, Tennessee- The Brenau softball team dispatched Johnson (Tenn.) University 4-2 and 9-8 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday.
In the opening game, pitchers Paige Downing and Sarah Shaw combined for ten strikeouts to hold the Royals (2-20 overall, 0-16 AAC0 in check and help the Golden Tigers win 4-2.
Sophomores Abigail Brown and Aly Singletary and senior Shea Reagor each drove in runs to take game one.
In game two, Shaw struck out Johnson's Hunter Troutt with the bases loaded to escape with a 9-8 victory.
Sophomore Hannah Patridge led the Golden Tiger offense with three RBIs, while Brown added two RBIs. Senior Maygan Loparo chipped in three hits and fellow senior Alyssa Maisonet added two hits as well.
The wins bumped Brenau (19-8 overall, 12-4 AAC) into second place in the AAC standings, trailing only Tennessee Wesleyan for top conference honors.
The Golden Tigers return home for an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader against Columbia International (15-19-1 overall, 6-7 AAC) on Saturday at 1 pm eastern in Gainesville.
