Softball Splits with Point in AAC Play
West Point, Georgia- In an matchup of top Appalachian Athletic Conference opponents, the Brenau softball team defeated Point (Ga.) University 6-5 in the opening game, but fell 9-3 in the finale to split a pair of games on Wednesday.
In the opener, the Golden Tigers stormed out to a commanding 4-0 lead as senior Maygan Loparo singled home sophomore Hannah Patridge to start the scoring and then freshman Taryn Hitchcock doubled to right center with the bases loaded to clear the bases.
The Nighthawks (21-11 overall, 11-3 AAC) rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3, but Brenau answered in the top of the sixth as senior Shea Reagor scored on an error to increase its lead to 5-2. Brenau added an insurance run as senior Alyssa Maisonet singled to right center to make the game 6-2. Point scored two runs in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to mount a comeback.
In the second game, the Point bats pounded out 15 hits to cruise to a 9-3 victory.
The Golden Tigers again scored in the first inning as Patridge doubled home senior Kasey Blair for a 1-0 lead, however, the Nighthawks scored four runs in the third inning and added five more runs through the next three innings to help the hosts secure the split.
Brenau (15-6 overall, 8-2 AAC) returns home for a doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan University (15-3 overall, 8-2 AAC) on Saturday at 1 pm eastern.
