Softball Splits with Covenant College

Lookout Mountain, Georgia- The Brenau softball team split a pair of games with Covenant College in a non-conference road doubleheader on Thursday.

In the opening game, the host Scots (3-9 overall) overcame a 6-0 deficit to win on a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning to escape with an 8-7 win.

Senior Faith Grooms led the Golden Tigers with a 3-4 day at the plate, while fellow senior Brooke Wakenigg went 2-4 with three RBIs. Junior Maygan Loparo also added a solid day with three RBIs and junior Alyssa Maisonet added two hits.

Starting pitcher Chloe Fambrough took the loss in a solid effort on the mound. The senior allowed only two earned runs across four innings on eight hits. Senior Caroline Mitchell pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on two hits.

In the second game, freshman Hannah Patridge blasted a pair of homers to help the Golden Tigers roll to a 15-2 win in five innings.

Patridge went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with five RBIs and sophomore Morgan Tyler went 2-2 with two RBIs. Wakenigg and Loparo also combined for five RBIs, while junior Shea Reagor added an RBI in the win.

Starting pitcher Cameron Dillard earned the win as the senior pitched five innings, allowing only two runs with five strikeouts.

Brenau (2-2 overall) hosts Faulkner (Ala.) University (3-1 overall) in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park at 2:00.The two teams previously split a pair of games in their first meeting last week.
