Truett Sweeps Brenau Softball, 3-0 and 4-0
Gainesville, Ga.- Visiting Truett McConnell College held the Brenau bats in check to capture 3-0 and 5-0 victories in Appalachian Athletic Conference play on Friday.
In game one, Brenau starter Jessica Rathje ran into trouble in the third inning by walking the Bears first two batters. After a fielder's choice and passed ball advanced the runners, the Bears' Sarah Sullivan singled to score the first run. After a sacrifice fly scored the second run, Briley Lawson doubled to score Sullivan and make the score 3-0.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brenau's Faith Grooms tripled, but the Golden Tigers were unable to continue the rally.
In game two, the Bears' pitching continued to stay strong as Brenau managed only four hits in a 5-0 loss.
Brenau's Karley Smith went 2-2, while Lexie Tallent and Maygan Loparo each added a hit.
Truett starter Karley Hobbs pitched a complete game shutout to take the win, while Brenau's Chloe Fambrough pitched 3 1/3 innings in the loss.
Brenau (22-6 overall, 11-5 overall) next hosts Montreat College (18-18 overall, 9-7 AAC) on Sunday for a 1 pm doubleheader in Gainesville.
