Softball Sweeps St. Andrews in AAC Competition
Laurinburg, NC-The Brenau softball team got back on the winning track with a sweep of St. Andrews University in Appalachian Athletic Conference competition on Friday.
In game one, the Golden Tigers used a six run first inning and a strong performance from starting pitcher Jessica Rathje to defeat the Knights 6-2 in seven innings.
Junior Tabitha Morrison drove in a season-high three RBIs and sophomore Faith Grooms added two stolen bases. Freshman Savannah Dooley also added an RBI and a stolen base to the victory.
Rathje threw her fifth complete game of the season while allowing no earned runs and nine strikeouts to capture her seventh win of the season.
In game two, the Golden Tigers offense again posted six runs in the top of the first inning and added four more runs in the sixth inning to cruise to an 11-5 win.
Freshman Erin Teaney hit her first career collegiate home run and drove in four runs, while fellow freshman Maygan Loparo went 2-4 with two RBIs. Junior Autumn Conaway also had a strong day at the plate with a 2-4, three RBI performance.
Sophomore Chloe Fambrough threw 3 1/3 innings to earn her fifth win of the season.
Brenau (13-3 overall, 4-2 AAC) next host Piedmont International University for a 2 pm Sunday doubleheader at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park in Gainesville.
