Softball Rolls Past Agnes Scott in Non-Conference Play
Decatur, Georgia- The Brenau softball team swept Agnes Scott College 10-4 and 13-3 in a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.
In the first inning of the opening game, Sheldon Kendrix hit a double down the third base line to put the first two runs on the board for the Golden Tigers.
After increasing the lead to 4-0 through three innings, Agnes Scott tied up the game with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, including a solo blast by Jani Howington.
The score stayed tied until the top of the seventh when an Agnes Scott error started a huge six running inning for the Golden Tigers, including RBIs by Maygan Loparo, Alyssa Maisonet and Steffanie Redmon to take a 10-4 win.
Brenau starter Jessica Rathje struck out 16 batters over seven innings to capture her second win of the season.
In the second game, six fielding errors by the host Scotties and a huge seven-run third inning by the Golden Tigers allowed the visitors to roll to a 13-3 win in five innings.
Freshman Lexie Tallent hit her first collegiate home run, while Faith Grooms went 2-3 with three RBIs. Loparo and Redmon each added two RBIs.
Sophomore Chloe Fambrough pitch five innings, allowing only one run while striking out five to take the win.
Brenau (3-1 overall) travels to face Clark Atlanta (1-3) on Wednesday for 2 pm non-conference doubleheader.
