Softball Splits With Bryan In AAC Play
The #21 Brenau softball team split a pair of games with Bryan College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup on Friday in Dayton, Tennessee.
In the opening game, the host Lions committed six errors while the Brenau bats pounded out eleven runs on ten hits to roll to an 11-3 win.
Faith Grooms, Autumn Conaway and Mason Garland each drove in two RBIs, while Tabitha Morrison added an RBI of her own. Kelsey Payne hit her third home run of the year, while Sarah Peery also added two hits to the win.
Starting pitcher Jessica Rathje pitched a complete game en route to her ninth win of the season. The junior allowed only five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven.
In game two, Bryan scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a 3-2 win.
After the Golden Tigers' Savannah Moore doubled to left to score Mason Garland to tie the score 2-2 in the sixth inning, the Lions' Hannah O'Shields singled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the walk-off run to split the doubleheader.
Shelton Kendrix drove in a run, while Moore posted two hits and an RBI.
Caroline Mitchell pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing only one run in the loss, while fellow freshman Kaleigh Sullivan threw 2 1/3 innings and allowed two runs.
Brenau (21-14 overall, 10-6 AAC) finishes out the regular season this week with doubleheaders against Columbia College, Truett-McConnell and Milligan.
