Softball Splits on Day Three of Classic
The Brenau softball team split a pair of games on day three of the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
In the opening game of the day, the Golden Tigers scored six runs in the sixth inning to overwhelm Grove City (Pa.) College 11-3.
Freshman Faith Grooms drove in three runs, while Chelsea Dale added two hits and an RBI in the rout.
Chloe Fambrough earned the win after pitching one inning of relief. The freshman threw one inning, allowing one hit and one earned run to close out the game.
In game two, the squad struggled at the plate in a 3-1 loss to Ferrum (Va.) College. The Golden Tigers went scoreless until putting one run on the board in the seventh to take their second loss of the season.
Lexi Cash drove in the lone run, while the team managed only four hits in the game.
Starter Jessica Rathje threw 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs in the loss. Kaleigh Sullivan pitched 3 2/3 inning of shutout ball in relief.
Brenau (8-2 overall) closes out the final day of the Classic with a doubleheader against Suny-Dehli starting at 12 pm.
