Softball Coaches Honored By NFCA

Following their record breaking season and #8 final national ranking, the Brenau softball coaching staff was recognized as the 2017 National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.

Head coach Devon Thomas and assistant coaches Gary Hatfield and Mike Ledford were selected as the East Region Softball staff of the year and were among six staff finalists for the national coaching staff of the year.

During the 2017 campaign, the Golden Tigers rose to #2 in the NAIA Coaches poll heading into the postseason and were only one of two programs to reach the 50-win mark during the regular season. The Southern States Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions reeled off 31 consecutive wins, including a 4-0 run to the tournament title en route to a 52-7 overall record. The squad was also the first SSAC team to post an undefeated record during the regular season.

Other regional winners include Bellevue University (Central), Marian University Indianapolis (Great Lakes), Columbia College (Mo.) (Midwest), Oklahoma City University (Southwest) and Southern Oregon University (West)

Staffs were selected by a vote of their peers from the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association.
