#8 Brenau Softball Rolls Past #2 William Carey
The #8 Brenau softball team rolled past #2 William Carey (Miss.) University to take sole possession of first place in the Southern States Athletic Conference on Saturday in Gainesville.
The sweep of the Crusaders gave the Golden Tigers a conference record of 16-0 and a three game lead at the top of the SSAC.
In game one, freshman Kathleen Daniel continued her stellar play with a complete game shutout. The Locust Grove, Ga. native allowed only two hits and struck out 14 batters en route to a 2-0 win.
After a scoreless first three innings, the Golden Tigers put two runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth as Savannah Moore led the offense with an RBI. Daniel then went to work, holding the visiting Crusaders to only two hits.
In game two, the offense scored four runs off of Crusader starter Hannah Moak in a big fourth inning to roll to a 5-3 win.
Moore continued her strong day with a 2-4 with one RBI, while Autumn Conaway added three RBIs. Lexi Cash went 1-4 with an RBI and Mackenzie Oliver Mullis added a hit and a stolen base.
Daniel again pitched a complete game, allowing eight hits and two runs with seven strikeouts for her 30th win of the season.
Brenau (37-5 overall, 16-0 SSAC) next faces Martin Methodist (Tenn.) University on April 7th in Pulaski, Tennessee for a 5:00 pm doubleheader.
