Payne and Daniel Honored By SSAC

Two Brenau softball players swept the Southern States Athletic conference awards for their performances during the week of Feb. 27 – March 5 as selected by the conference.

Kathleen Daniel and Kelsey Payne were named SSAC Pitcher of the Week and SSAC Player of the Week respectively after both had outstanding weeks on the field.

For Daniel, the nod was her third-straight Pitcher of the Week honor. The freshman logged 43.2 innings over seven games, tallying 86 strikeouts and allowing only 22 hits and six earned runs with a 4-2 record. Against No. 13 Georgia Gwinnett, she struck out 21 in eight innings and against Ave Maria, she fanned 15 in seven two-hit innings. On the season, she has a 0.39 ERA, 0.10 opponent's batting average and 256 strikeouts in 126.2 innings.

Payne, a junior, hit .385, slugged .885 and finished with six extra-base hits and 10 RBIs on the week. She went 3-for-3 with three runs scored against Emmanuel, homered and drove in three in a 3-2 win versus Freed-Hardeman and scored three runs and drove in one in a 4-2 win against LSU-Alexandria. On the season, she is hitting .407 and slugging .651, while leading the team in hits (35), runs (24), doubles (8), home runs (3) and RBIs (19).
