Softball Splits With Tennessee Wesleyan
Freshman Eli Daniel hurled her second no hitter of the season to help the Brenau softball team split a pair of games against Tennessee Wesleyan University on Saturday in Gainesville.
Daniel dominated the Bulldogs over five innings, allowing no runs and no hits to capture her fourth win of the season. The Locust Grove, Ga. native struck out 11 batters and allowed only two walks in the victory.
Savannah Moore added a home run and two RBIs, while Autumn Conaway added two RBIs. Mackenzie Oliver Mullis and Shelton Kendrix each added an RBI as well.
In game two, the Golden Tigers committed two errors that proved costly to drop the second game 4-2.
The visitors struck first with a run in the first inning, then scored three more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Lexi Cash drove in a run while Mullis and Sarah Peery each scored to cut the deficit to 4-2.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Tigers had runners on second and third when Kelsey Payne drove a ball to deep centerfield. However, the ball stayed in the park and Brenau dropped its first game of the 2017 season.
Jessica Rathje pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three runs to take the loss. Daniel pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Peery led the offense with two hits, while Cash added a hit and an RBI.
Brenau (6-1 overall) next hosts Bryan (Tenn.) College on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm doubleheader at Ernest Ledford Grindle Athletics Park.
