Softball Qualifies for National Championships
The Brenau softball team clinched their third appearance in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Softball National Championships, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Golden Tigers, who competed in the tournament in both 2009 and 2012, will play host Georgia Gwinnett on Monday, May 16th in Lawrenceville, Georgia. St. Xavier (Ill.), the #1 seed in the four team pod, will face #4 Milligan (Tenn.) College in the second game of the day.
During the regular season, Brenau (29-22) split with Georgia Gwinnett, losing the first game 1-0, but winning the second game, 8-7 in eight innings.
40 total teams are selected for the tournament with 31 automatic bids and nine at-large berths qualifying for the double-elimination tournament. Teams are placed in four-team pods, with the 10 champions of each pod advancing to the 35th annual NAIA Softball World Series in Sioux City, Iowa from May 27-June 2.
