Softball Falls to #2 AUM
The Brenau softball team lost two games to #2 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) University in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) doubleheader in Montgomery on Friday.
In game one, the Warhawks opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the second for an early 2-0 lead. After a Savannah Moore (FR/Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) double in the top of the second, Brenau was unable to drive in the run. AUM then added to their lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.
The three AUM runs were enough for the win as the Golden Tigers were unable to sustain any offense, managing only three hits.
Moore led the team with two hits, while Madison Lacy (FR/Trenton, Ga.) added the other hit for the Golden Tigers.
Taylor Causey (JR/Covington, Ga.) pitched a strong game in a loss, throwing six innings and allowing only two earned runs while striking out five.
In game two, the Brenau offense opened the game with a leadoff home run from Cheyenne Marsh (JR/Richmond Hill, Ga.) for a 1-0 lead.
After allowing two runs in the bottom of the first, Madison Lacy hit a solo shot of her own in the top of the second to even the score.
However, Brenau was unable maintain the tie as the Warhawks scored three runs in the bottom of the second and another in the bottom of the third for a 6-2 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Sarah Peery (FR/Auburn, Ga.) hit a leadoff double to start the rally. Victoria Fontana (SO/Jackson, GA) followed with a single to put two runners on. After Peery was tagged out on a fielder's choice, Elizabeth Scheider singled in Fontana to make the score 6-3. However, the Golden Tigers were unable to capitalize with two runners in scoring position.
AUM then added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the game 8-3.
Peery went 2-3 at the plate, while Schneider went 1-3 with an RBI.
Madison Gossett (FR/Trenton, Ga.) took the loss as the freshman pitched two innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs. Jenny Willis (SR/Auburn, Ga.) pitched four innings in relief, allowing seven hits and three runs.
Brenau continues their SSAC road schedule on Saturday with a 1:00 pm doubleheader against Faulkner (Ala.) University.
