RedHawks Take Two From Golden Tigers
In a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup, the Brenau softball team fell to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 6-1 and 10-2 on Friday in Pulaski, Tennessee.
After getting behind 2-0 in the second inning, Brenau finally got on the board when Cheyenne Marsh (JR/Richmond Hill, Ga.) scored off a RedHawk error to cut the lead 2-1. However, Martin Methodist rallied to score one in the bottom of the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth to cruise to the win.
Marsh and Elizabeth Schneider (JR/Smyrna, Ga.) each had two hits, but the Golden Tigers stranded 10 baserunners in the game.
Taylor Causey (JR/Covington, Ga.) (4-1) took her first loss of the season as the junior pitched six innings, allowing six hits and six runs with five strikeouts.
In game two, Martin Methodist continued their hot start as the home team scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 2-0 lead. The RedHawks added a third run in the bottom of the third, but the Golden Tigers responded in the top of the fourth when Mackenzie Oliver (SO/Martin, Ga.) scored off a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The momentum continued in the top of the fifth as a Marsh sacrifice fly scored Mason Garland (FR/Hoschton, Ga.) to make the score 3-2.
However, the RedHawks exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game.
Madison Gossett (FR/Trenton, Ga.) (10-8) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and eight runs to take the loss.
