#20 Golden Tigers Split With Scotties
The #20 Brenau softball team split with Agnes Scott (Ga.) College on Monday in Decatur, Ga, dropping the first game 6-1, but rallied to take game two 4-2.
In game one, Agnes Scott opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Golden Tigers answered with a solo home run from Sarah Peery (FR/Auburn, Ga.) in the top of the third, but the Scotties responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
Peery went 2-3 with a solo home run, while Kelsey Payne (FR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Liz Schneider each added a hit.
Jenny Willis (SR/Auburn, Ga.) (4-1) allowed four runs in two innings to take the loss. Madison Gossett (FR/Trenton, Ga.) pitched four innings in relief, allowing two runs with four strikeouts.
In game two, Agnes Scott once again opened the game with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Scotties kept the Golden Tigers in check until the fourth inning when Peery scored off an Agnes Scott error. Brenau continued the attack in the top of the sixth when pinch hitter Katie Cole doubled to deep center to score Payne. Allison Gunn (SO/Toccoa, Ga.) then followed up with a double to center field to score Mason Garland (FR/Hoschton, Ga.). Gunn then scored off a Landon Farrow (JR/Martin, Ga.) hit for the third run.
Gunn led the Golden Tigers with two hits, while Mackenzie Oliver (SO/Martin, Ga.) added one hit and two walks.
Taylor Causey (JR/Covington, Ga.) (2-0) pitched a complete game, allowing two runs while striking out four.
Brenau (14-4, 4-0 SSAC) continues their slate when they play host to #1 Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) University in a 3 pm doubleheader at Lanier Point Park.
