#20 Softball Takes Two From Agnes Scott

The #20 Brenau softball team swept Agnes Scott (Ga.) College 3-1 and 6-2 in a Saturday doubleheader.

In game one, freshman Madison Gossett (FR/Trenton, Ga.) continued her impressive early season with a complete game shutout. The freshman pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits and no walks, while striking out 11 batters for her second win of the year.

In the bottom of the third, Mackenzie Oliver (SO/Martin, Ga.) scored when Agnus Scott misplayed a Liz Schneider grounder to give the Golden Tigers a 1-0 lead. Oliver and Schneider added RBIs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0.

Schneider went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Oliver went 2-4 with an RBI. Cheyenne Marsh (JR/Richmond Hill, Ga.) also added two hits and scored a run in the victory.

In the nightcap, Brenau again struck first as freshman Madison Lacy (FR/Trenton, Ga.) hit her first career homer- a two-run shot- to give the home team a 2-0 lead.
After the Scotties evened the score 2-2 in the top of the third, the Golden Tigers answered with two more runs for a 4-2 lead. Brenau added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure their fourth win of the season.

Lacy went 2-3 with a homer and two RBIs, while fellow freshman Kelsey Payne (FR/Chattanooga, Tenn.) went 1-2 with a triple and an RBI. Senior Katie Cole added two hits and freshman Sarah Peery (FR/Auburn, Ga.) drove in two RBIs.

Starter Jenny Willis (SR/Auburn, Ga.) pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and striking out three. Taylor Causey (JR/Covington, Ga.) pitched in relief and threw 3 2/3 shutout innings to capture her first win of the season.

Brenau (4-0) hosts Montreat (N.C.) College on Tuesday for a 3 pm doubleheader.
