Softball Earns Sweep on Senior Day
On Senior Day, the #22 Brenau softball team honored their two graduating seniors by sweeping Emmanuel (Ga.) College 9-1 and 8-3.
In game one, senior Jenny Shepherd dominated on the mound and at the plate, highlighted by her two-run homer which helped break open the game. The Martinez, Ga. native pitched all five innings, while striking out seven batters to take the win. Shepherd also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Fellow senior Katie Bolin added to the celebration going 2-for-2 with two RBIs as well.
Allison Gunn contributed to the win with a 3-for-3 effort, while Andrea Bentley and Liz Schneider each added two hits.
The Golden Tigers pounded out 15 hits over five innings to secure their 29th win of the season.
In game two, the two seniors continued their memorable day, combining for six more hits in an 8-3 win.
The Golden Tigers scored first to take a 1-0 lead, but the Lions rallied to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Bolin added to her memorable day with an RBI in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-3. After a solo blast in the fifth inning by junior Katie Cole, Shepherd blasted a three run homer to straightaway center field to cap off the Golden Tigers' 30th win of the season. Shepherd also pitched three innings in relief to earn the win.
Bolin went 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Shepherd went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs. Allison Gunn continued her hot streak going 3-for-4, and Schneider added two more hits to punctuate with win.
The victory marked the ninth consecutive 30 win season for the Golden Tigers, who now sit in 2nd place in the SSAC East standings.
Brenau (30-11, 15-10 SSAC) travel to Southern Wesleyan (SC) University on Friday for a 5 pm doubleheader.
