Softball Sweeps Brewton Parker
The Golden Tigers softball team swept Brewton Parker (Ga.) College 5-1 and 2-1 to keep pace in the SSAC standings.
In the second inning, Landon Farrow drove in a run to start the Golden Tiger rally, while Victoria Fontana followed up with two RBIs to help take a 3-0 lead. Liz Schneider and Katie Cole each added an RBI in fifth inning to increase the lead to 5-0.
Schneider went 3-3 on the afternoon, while Cole and Fontana each went 2-3.
Jenny Shepherd, who took a no-hitter into the final frame, pitched a complete game to earn her 17th win of the season. The senior allowed three hits, one run, while striking out 12.
In game two, the Golden Tigers again used a strong pitching outing to capture the nightcap. Jenny Willis pitched five innings, allowing four hits and one run to give the Golden Tigers their 28th win of the season. Shepherd threw two innings in relief to close out the game.
Fontana and Allison Gunn each drove in a run in the fifth inning, which was enough to give Brenau the win.
The wins keep the Golden Tigers firmly in third place and within two games of second place Martin Methodist (Tn.) College.
Brenau (28-11, 13-10 SSAC) returns to the field Thursday for Senior Day as the Golden Tigers face Emmanuel (Ga.) College at 5 pm.
The team will honor seniors Katie Bolin and Jenny Shepherd after the conclusion of the second game.
