Softball Powers Past Emmanuel
The #20 Brenau Golden Tigers used strong pitching and power hitting to sweep the Emmanuel (Ga.) College Lions 4-2 and 11-2 on Wednesday.
In game one, Emmanuel scored one run in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead. The Lions kept control until the top of the sixth when Cheyenne Marsh drove in a run to even the score. Andrea Bentley then blasted a three-run bomb to increase the Golden Tiger lead to 4-1. Emmanuel scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally fell short to give Brenau the win.
Jenny Shepherd pitched a complete game, striking out ten batters to capture her 13th win of the season.
Bentley went 1-3 with 3 RBIs, while Katie Cole and Liz Schneider each added two hits.
In game two, the Golden Tigers continued their momentum as the offense pounded out eleven runs over five innings.
After taking a 3-1 lead in the third inning, Brenau added four runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning to notch their 23rd win of the season.
Cole hit a solo home run and Allison Gunn added a two-run homer to lead the attack.
Shepherd went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Victoria Fontana, Marsh and Schneider each drove in a run.
Jenny Willis continued the outstanding pitching as the junior threw five innings, allowing only one run while striking out six.
Brenau (23-7, 8-6 SSAC) travels to Faulkner (Ala.) University on Friday for an 2 pm doubleheader.
