Softball Splits With RedHawks
The #21 Brenau softball team split a doubleheader with Martin Methodist (Tn.) College as the Golden Tigers lost game one 6-5 and won game two 11-7.
In game one, the Golden Tigers scored one in the first inning and piled on four more runs in the top of the third to take a 4-0 lead. However, the RedHawks scored four runs to trail 5-4 going into the final inning. After Brenau failed to add to their lead, Martin Methodist scored two in the seventh to take the win.
Senior Jenny Shepherd pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing eleven hits and four runs, while striking out three in the loss.
Shepherd also added a 3-4 day at the plate, while Liz Schneider went 3-3 with an RBI. Landon Farrow and Cheyenne Marsh each added two hits, while Andrea Bentley drove in two runs.
In game two, the RedHawks scored four early runs to take an early 4-0 lead. The Golden Tigers answered with four in the fourth and five in the fifth to take a commanding 9-4 lead. Martin Methodist answered with three in the bottom half of the fifth, but the Golden Tigers added one insurance run in the sixth to capture an 11-7 victory.
Katie Cole pitched six innings, allowing seven runs on six hits to earn the win. Jenny Willis pitched one shut out inning in relief.
Schneider went 3-5 with two RBIs, while Bentley added three hits. Marsh went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Katie Bolin, Landon Farrow, Victoria Fontana, and Jenny Shepherd each drove in a run.
Brenau (21-7, 6-6 SSAC) travels to Emmanuel (Ga.) on Tuesday for an SSAC doubleheader. First pitch is at 5 pm eastern.
