Golden Tigers Rally For Split Versus RedHawks
In the first meeting with SSAC newcomer Martin Methodist College, the #19 Brenau Golden Tigers won the opening match 4-3, but fell in the second game 8-1.
Senior Jenny Shepherd threw seven strong innings and the Golden Tigers rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal the win.
Martin Methodist took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Landon Farrow got the comeback started by reaching base. Shepherd drove in Farrow to get the first run on the board. After a Cheyenne Marsh RBI to cut the lead to 3-2, Andrea Bentley knocked in two for the walk off win.
Shepherd allowed three runs and five hits while striking out six to capture her twelfth win of the season.
In game two, the Golden Tigers fell behind early again as the RedHawks scored four in the first inning off Shepherd who was unable to finish the inning. Brenau answered with one run in the bottom of the second, but were held to only four hits on the afternoon. The RedHawks added four in the seventh to take the game.
Jenny Willis pitched seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits to take the loss.
Brenau (20-6, 5-5 SSAC) picks up the conference slate on Friday when the Golden Tigers play host to Bethel University at 4 pm eastern.
