Softball Drops Two Against AUM
The #19 Brenau softball team rallied twice, but fell short as the Golden Tigers lost two games to #6 Auburn University-Montgomery 4-3 and 12-7 on Friday.
In game one, the Warhawks took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Caitlyn Glenn doubled to right-center to start the late rally. Madison Strickland and Andrea Bentley then each coaxed walks to load the bases for freshman Victoria Fontana, who also walked to give the Golden Tigers their first run of the game. The next batter, sophomore Landon Farrow also earned a walk to make the score 4-2. An error on the Warhawks cut their lead to 4-3 as Andrea Bentley crossed the plate. With the bases loaded, senior Jenny Shepherd hit a fly ball to center field to end the Golden Tiger rally.
Cheyenne Marsh led the offense with two hits. Landon Farrow added the only other hit for the Golden Tigers.
Jenny Willis pitched a complete game, allowing four runs on four hits to take the loss.
In game two, AUM again took an early lead as the Warhawks scored three first inning runs to take command. Going into the fourth with a 4-2 lead, the Warhawks pounded out six runs to take a 10-2 lead. The Golden Tigers responded with four runs in the fifth inning to cut the score to 10-6, but were unable to finish out the comeback.
Katie Cole and Caitlyn Glenn each hit home runs for the Golden Tigers. Cheyenne Marsh, Liz Schneider and Jenny Shepherd each drove in runs for Brenau.
Cole pitched 4 innings, allowing six runs and six hits to take the loss.
Brenau continues their conference schedule on Saturday as they play host to newcomer Martin Methodist College at 1 pm.
