Golden Tigers Take Two From Mariners
In the second set of early SSAC games, the Brenau softball team swept two from College of Coastal Georgia 7-3 and 6-2 on Saturday.
In game one, Brenau used a four-run third inning to pull away as the Golden Tigers pounded out nine hits to capture the win.
Jenny Shepherd hit a sacrifice fly to score Cheyenne Marsh to open to scoring for the Golden Tigers. Caitlyn Glenn then mashed her sixth homer of the season, scoring Liz Schneider and Victoria Fontana to add to the lead.
In the top of the fourth, Marsh doubled to right-center to score Katie Bolin for the fifth run of the game.
Allison Gunn scored on a passed ball in the fifth to give the Golden Tigers their sixth run, while Katie Cole notched an RBI single to score Glenn to seal the win.
Shepherd struck out five Mariners over five innings to capture her tenth win of the season. Jenny Willis pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief to close out the game..
In game two, Brenau used six Coastal Georgia errors to pull away late to capture their 18th win of the season.
Early, the Golden Tigers and Mariners traded runs in the first inning to start the game 1-1. After a Coastal Georgia run in the bottom of the third, Katie Cole hit a solo shot in the top of the fourth to even the score 2-2.
After Andrea Bentley added an RBI single in the top of the sixth to give the Golden Tigers a 3-2 lead, Brenau capitalized on two wild pitches to score three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 win.
Shepherd went 1-4 with two RBIs, while Glenn also added an RBI.
Taylor Causey and Jenny Willis combined to pitch seven solid innings. The duo allowed only one earned run while striking out five.
Brenau (18-2, 3-1 SSAC) continue the early conference slate when they host Southern Wesleyan (SC) University in a 5 pm doubleheader on March 18th.
