Softball Rolls In Split Doubleheader
In a split doubleheader, the # 17 Brenau Golden Tigers softball team defeated Talledega (Ala.) College 1-0 and Concordia (Mich.) University 7-3 on Friday.
Pitcher Jenny Shepherd threw seven shutout innings to capture her eighth win of the season. The senior held Talledega to three hits while striking out ten to lead the Golden Tigers to victory.
A pitcher's duel most of the game, the Golden Tigers finally took the lead on Liz Schneider's RBI in the top of the sixth inning. The sophomore hit 2-3 on the day with the lone RBI and one walk. Caitlyn Glenn and Shepherd each added one hit on the afternoon.
In game two versus Concordia, the Brenau offense came alive early to give the Golden Tigers a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
After Concordia took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, the Golden Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning as the duo of Schneider and Shepherd slammed back-to-back home runs to regain the lead. Katie Cole added a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Jenny Willis pitched four innings allowing no earned runs, three unearned runs and two strikeouts to capture her fourth win of the year. Shepherd pitched three innings of relief, striking out all nine batters she faced.
