Softball Splits With Savannah State
A ten-run fourth inning capped a 14-1 victory in game one as the #17 Brenau Golden Tigers softball team split a doubleheader with NCAA Division I Savannah State (Ga.) University on Tuesday.
In game one, after taking an early 4-0 in the second inning, the Brenau bats exploded as ten runs crossed the plate in the 4th inning to secure the win. Sophomore Liz Schneider led the charge, batting 2-3 with five RBIs. Cheyenne Marsh added three hits and two RBIs, while Shepherd and Katie Cole each added two RBIs. Victoria Fontana, Caitlyn Glenn and MackenzieOliver each chipped in RBIs.
Senior Jenny Shepherd threw three shutout innings while striking out five to capture her fifth win of the season. Cole struck out two in two innings of relief.
In game two, Savannah State scored four to take an early lead. Three Brenau runs in the fourth inning, including RBIs from Schneider and Cole, cut into the Savannah State lead. However, the Golden Tigers surrendered two more runs in the fifth inning to fall behind 6-3 and were unable to rally for the win.
Jenny Willis threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing only one run, while Katie Cole pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run to take the loss.
Brenau (7-1) continues their road trip as they take on #12 University of South Carolina-Beaufort on Thursday.
