#17 Brenau Softball Storms Past Piedmont
In a battle of nationally ranked teams, the # 17 Brenau softball team swept the NCAA Division III #13 ranked Piedmont (Ga.) College Lions 4-1 and 8-3 on Thursday.
Senior Jenny Shepherd won her fourth game of the season in dominating fashion, throwing a complete game and striking out seven and allowing only one run.
Sophomore Caitlyn Glenn continued her strong start to the season as she mashed her third home run of the year, driving in two runs.
Freshman Victoria Fontana hit 1-3 with an RBI, while Cheyenne Marsh and Katie Bolin each added a hit.
In game two, the Golden Tigers bats came alive, pounding out 14 hits to secure an 8-3 win. Marsh hit a three run home run in the sixth and Glenn added a 3-4 day with three RBIs. Sophomore Liz Schneider went 3-5 with an RBI, while Makenzie Oliver and Fontana went 3-5.
Glenn, Oliver and Allison Gunn each added a stolen base.
Jenny Willis also pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to capture her first win of the year.
"The team did a good job in game 1 against a very good pitcher in Jordin Ellingson," noted head coach Devon Thomas. "We stayed on the ball and put it in play, executed well and got a big homerun from Caitlyn Glenn".
"In Game 2 the team did a good job hitting the ball. Willis was very efficient tonight throwing 97 pitches and 67 of those being strikes. 14 hits in the game were the most hits we have put together in a game this year. Marsh hit her three-run homerun in the top 6 to push lead to 8-1 which I thought really took the air out of a very good Piedmont team".
Brenau (6-0) heads to play NCAA Division I Savannah State (Ga.) on Tuesday for a double-header.
