Brenau Softball Defeats Brewton-Parker

In a crucial conference matchup, the Brenau University softball team swept host Brewton-Parker College on Saturday to maintain its second place position in the SSAC standings.

After taking a first inning lead, the Golden Tigers fell behind in the bottom of the fifth inning 3-2. Runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings allowed Brenau to escape with the win.

Sally Duggan (Huntsville, Ala.) led the Tigers in hitting going 3-4, while fellow junior Jenny Shepard went 2-4 with 1 RBI. Tiffany Schandera (Columbus, Ga.), Taylor Kelly (Toccoa, Ga.) and Liz Schneider (Smyrna, Ga.) each added an RBI.

Shepard also pitched a complete game to capture the victory. The Martinez, Ga. native allowed three hits and three runs while recording nine strikeouts.

In game 2, the Golden Tigers continued their early inning hitting, scoring three runs in the first inning en route to a 7-1 win.

Kelly went 3-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Brenau hitting, while Duggan, Shepard, Schneider and Katie Cole (Tupelo, Miss.) each added RBIs .

Anna Maness (Seagrove, N.C.) threw seven strong innings allowing only four hits and one run. The victory, Maness's 16th of the season, places her in the top 20 nationally in wins.

Brenau next hosts #4 Lee University (Tenn.) on Tuesday. First pitch is at 4 pm.
